I have been a camera system installer for over 9 years and over those years I found that my customers main concern was will I be around to maintain or fix the system throughout the years. When you invest in a security system you want to make sure your investment Secures you for some time to come. Quiz your potential installer and make sure the model he is installing for your home or business is not his first. Also make sure he gives you details on how he is going to install your system and how much time he is willing to spend on training you or someone you trust on how to use the system.
Depending on your budget you may want to have a maintenance agreement to cover anything that may go wrong with the cameras or recording system. Cameras are no different than light bulbs in the fact that they can have a limited life span. Most cameras last for 2-3 years when they are on continuously. Unfortunately just like a light bulb they may go out suddenly right after a few weeks and the hard drive in your camera recorder (DVR) may overheat. Most maintenance contracts cover incidents like this and can give you a greater peace of mind. Some camera installers try to give you the most affordable cameras and installation to fit your budget without a maintenance contract but will be able to fix your camera problem in the future for an hourly fee if something goes wrong after 30 days.
I prefer offering a maintenance contract along with the installation but it all depends on the customers security budget.
